Scholarship – Recognition for merit,an aid, a motivation, or a financial award?

Although the names or the reasons could be different for the scholarship but it serves only one purpose that is to help the deserving person to move ahead without any blockage in terms of financial needs.

  

Types of scholarship

Merit-based : These scholarships are usually granted to the "upper crust" of entering students, academically speaking  and are awarded by either private organizations or directly by a student's intended college.
Basis

• athletic or other abilities
• extracurricular activities and community service record

Need-based: as the name suggest these are awarded on the basis of student and family's financial record and will require applicants to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify if the scholarship is a federal award.

University Scholarships


Major-Specific Awards. For the performer in any specific field For instance aptitude for mathematics might be awarded a scholarship through that department at the university, provided they plan to pursue mathematics as a major course of study.
Fellowships. Some students may be granted fellowship money to pursue certain projects while at the university. For example, a student interested in performing research in chemistry may be awarded a fellowship. The university will grant funds for such a student to carry out research under the supervision of a faculty member.
