Which is the right college? Confused!!

College is a constituent part of an educational institutions per the Wikipedia statement . A college may be a degree-awarding tertiary educational institution, an institution within a federal university, an institution offering vocational education, or a secondary school but for students it is the place where they experience the most crucial part of their life and get groomed for the future life .

It is very important to be focused and clear with what college is to be selected and why.

For many of us the dilemma starts with the result and score which is the first criteria to get into any dream college of ours

The question that might bother us could be whether I will get admission in good college or not?

What decide a good college for me when there are 1000s of colleges near by and far away... First it should be made clear that which the right college is for me

Right defines itself

Remuneration (Placement) The first question which we always try to answer is that what there for me? When I Am spending this much amount would I be getting the right amount later?

Although placements cannot be the only preference as it depends on infrastructure, faculty, facilities provided by college to it's student, college rank, past performance of the students in company, and last but not the least individual talent and personality and many more factors yet it is the most researchable thing and one should have a clear picture for the same before deciding a good or bad name for self.

Infrastructure: it include classroom, administrative building, workshop, computer labs, various laboratories etc and not merely the looks and feel of the building .Although the tangible assets but are to be taken care of as an healthy environment is must for the healthy upbringing

Guiders (faculties and facilities)

The role of a mentor or a guider is beyond explanation. When it comes to faculty professors, reader, lecturer, teacher-student ratio, visiting faculty, teaching experience etc. make the complete definition of the same further the support aided by teachers is complimented with the other facilities like  Library, Internet, intranet, hostels, seminar halls, dispensary, student clubs, gym etc.

Hobbies (extra curricular activities support)

Hobbies makes a man complete as no one can be confined to books 24x7 thus something is needed to keep the light within and complete the personality development Extra curricular activities play a very important role in the same So have a look about extra activities provided by college like, annual function, sport function, students club, seminars and workshops, industrial training, social activities, NCC, NSS etc.

Targeted location

Location is not hindrance these days as students and parent s have become open minded .a location cannot be the hurdles when it comes to the study of choice so it should be given the least importance

How to be clear of the factors mentioned above?

With the advent of tech development it is now very easy to get the detail of any college institute in seconds

Just need to visit their site, seek some advice from senior. Governmental support to education has led to many helpline centers and there are many counselor available to help the students. If feasible a personal visit should be made before finalizing the decision.

What is good college or course?

Again the answer is fully on interest. At the end you would land up with a degree with your talents and skills as per the course studied ,the skills you have would help you to decide if a course is to be given preference or not

This decision should not be made under influence.

Does my fav college have the course that I am looking for?

There you need to do some ground work and study thoroughly the college site and then decide why a college is of my interest. Is this the facilities and infrastructure or my interest in the particular course?

Now what could be the factors to think of what is my favorite course?

The answer is if you really know what are you up to ,college reputation does make a difference but at the end it is your caliber to decide on to your career ahead .the clarity should be on the courses first

The criteria could be:
Your interest

It is important as until and unless you are not sure of your own choice it would remain burden to get rid of, pass the exam and enter into a company to serve them like animals and remain in the rat race. Interest should be deiced based on aptitude and skills for the course. Marks cannot be the basis of interest so is the money or else tension, stress, dissatisfaction are inevitable

Job opportunities

Do some research and find the most lucrative and prosperous industry or the sector in terms of growth and opportunities. Branches like computer science, Information Technology and electronics have an edge over other so are most preferable but the importance of other branches cannot be neglected .the only difference is that they may be least explored and if explored may open plethora of opportunities in that particular sector .

Money or financial remuneration

It is directly proportional to your own caliber although it is assumed that the branches like computer science, Information Technology or electronics (which are the most preferred choice of students) mechanical, electrical, chemical or production, civil etc may fetch you good money but then at the end what you get is based on what you deserve .

Parent wish

Although time has changed and the parents have given full liberty to their children to choose their career but still somewhere there is some expectation. It should be taken care of but considering that other factors should support your decision. After all going in favor of parental wish is to keep them happy but as long as you are confident of your decision the end result would be good only

If later I analyze this stream/branch is not meant for me

To not to be in such situation I is advisable to be clear of the points mentioned above but still if anything like this happens there are two options available

Branch sliding

It depends on your luck as if by any reason if any seat remain vacant and your marks are supportive enough to help you in sliding .Thus the key factors are

No. of seat vacant
Your rank

Branch change

It is for the meritorious student to change their branch but rules are different from institute to institute
Thus at the end of second semester Minimum no of marks/CGPA(combined grand performance index)secured  in your first year is the decisive factor plus Max. no of seat available for branch change.

But still if due to any reason the branch is not change create a solution for yourself, develop interest and explore the career opportunities in that field.
The key to success is to find the Next Opportunity in every NO :)
